Privacy Policy
Last updated September 25, 2026
1. Information we collect
Account information — name, handle, email or phone, password (hashed, never stored in plain text), and profile details you choose to add.
Content — posts, media, messages, comments, and reactions you create, along with metadata like when and where (if you allow location) they were created.
Usage and device information — pages and features you use, approximate location derived from IP address, device type, and app version, used for security, abuse prevention, and improving the product.
Payments and marketplace — order history, wallet balances, and payout details. Card and bank details are handled by our payment processors directly; we don't store full card numbers.
2. How we use your information
- To operate the service — showing your feed, delivering messages, processing orders and payouts.
- To keep the platform safe — detecting fraud, spam, and abuse, and enforcing our Terms.
- To communicate with you — service notices, security alerts, and (if you opt in) product updates.
- To improve Afriverse — understanding what works, debugging problems, and building new features.
3. What we share, and with whom
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with: service providers who help us run Afriverse under contract (hosting, payment processing, email delivery, cloud storage); other users, limited to what your privacy settings make visible; and authorities, when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
4. Cookies and similar technology
We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the app is used. You can control cookies through your browser, though some features (like staying signed in) won't work without them.
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward for legal, tax, and dispute-resolution purposes. Deleting your account removes your public content and personal data from active systems; some records may be retained where the law requires it (for example, transaction records).
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly from Settings, or by contacting us using the details below.
7. Children's privacy
Afriverse isn't directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children below that age; if we learn we have, we'll delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures — encryption in transit, hashed credentials, and access controls — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we also ask you to use a strong, unique password and enable any available account-recovery options.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email before they take effect.
